Iron fortification of food crops through nanofertilisation

چکیده

Micronutrient deficiencies are a significant cause of malnutrition worldwide, particularly in developing countries, affecting nearly 1.8 billion people worldwide. Agriculture is the primary source nutrients for humans, but increasing population and reducing arable lands areas putting agricultural sector under pressure, less developed calls intensive farming to increase crop yield overcome food deficiency challenges. Iron an essential microelement that plays vital role plant human growth, metabolism, its widely reported affects one-third world population. To combat micronutrient deficiency, crops must have improved nutritional qualities or be biofortified. Several biofortification programs with conventional breeding, biotechnological agronomic approaches been implemented limited success providing nutrients, especially under-developed countries. The use nanofertilisers as method yields availability soil uptake parts, minimising reliance on harmful chemical fertilisers essential. Using nanoparticles promising approach improving sustainability current practices production micronutrients, thus enhanced quality. This review evaluates iron several addressing critical knowledge gaps challenges addressed optimise sustainable application.

Effect of iron fortification of nursery complementary food on iron status of infants in the DPRKorea.

The aim of this study was to determine the iron status of infants who consumed porridge cooked in water with added ferrous sulphate. A total of 234 infants, aged 6-12 months, were recruited from 36 nurseries in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK North Korea) and randomly divided into iron (Fe) and placebo groups. At baseline, almost half the children had Hb<110 g/L and no significan...

Fortification of Wheat Flour With Iron: A National Fortification Program in Iran

Food fortification with iron can be an inexpensive, simple and effective strategy for controlling and preventing iron deficiency and anemia in many countries . Since iron deficiency was one of the main public health problems in Iran, the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MOH&ME) started technical and pilot studies on subjects about 16 years ago (in 2001). Based on the results obtained a...

Agronomic Approaches for Increasing Iron Availability to Food Crops

Iron availability in calcareous soils, and Fe uptake and translocation in plants are major factors limiting the agricultural use of land. The nutritional value of crops as Fe sources for humans is often reduced due to Fe-deficiency in plants. Agronomic approaches to overcome these shortcomings include: (i) methods aimed at increasing the availability of indigenous soil-Fe; (ii) soil and/or foli...

Iron fortification of infant formula.

The purpose of this review is to examine the need for and appropriate level of Fe fortification of infant formula, and to assess any adverse effects of Fe fortification. The appropriate level of Fe fortification of infant formula has been established through studies of Fe absorption or erythrocyte incorporation of Fe, and through clinical trials of formulas with varying levels of Fe that were a...
